Money itself isn’t lost or gained its simple transferred ?

By · July 21, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 2 Comments »

That was a quote from the movie "Wall Street" from the 80′s.
But it’s got me wondering lately.
Say a person looses a big chunk of their IRA, 401K, etc. due to the recently volatility stock market.
Where does that money really go?
The buyer of your assets is buying them in hopes of getting a bargain and it rising in the long term.
So even they only get a small portion.
Do I have this right? Does the money just "disappear"?

Will the stock market ever return to normal again?

By · July 19, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 7 Comments »

or since hedge funds control it and every tom dick and mary can trade it on their pc, how will volatility ever come back to norms ? Basically, if you have been in markets in last 10-12 years, you haven’t made much if anything buy buying and holding. Are these two crashes (Dot Com and Financial) that occurred a once in a lifetime thing or is there so much crookedness out there that we will have a crash every 4 years or so? How do you trust the markets when so many crooks control it including the government and the no good SEC? opinions?

Who is leading the stock market?

By · July 17, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 4 Comments »

What I mean is, who is controlling the volatility and the massive price swings (driving the market lower)?
I was always under the assumption that the market was mostly controlled by many millions of people investing relatively small amounts, IRAs, 401Ks, personal accounts through banks or brokers. Under this assumption some natural movement is understood but the prevailing movement will be flat to slightly up.
Now I am concerned that my understanding is seriously flawed. This massive movement down and all the volatility tells me I am betting on a market that is stacked with shorts and few people with tons of money.
How can small investors that can’t watch the market or move money by the second compete? It’s like betting on a football game and having some people allowed to change their bet at halftime (or in the 4th with 1 sec to go).
Is the deck stacked?
Is the market run by very few people with stupid amounts of money?
Should small investors invest in the market?
Are you sick of watching your 401K tank?
Thanks for reading!
Comments are appreciated.

1 Year – Stock Market Predictions In S&P 500 (Look @ my Math, and give an opinion)?

By · July 15, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 4 Comments »

1. In the S&P 500, the best indicator of Volatility is VIX.
2. The VIX indicator is Currently @ .62…
3. Maximum Volatility for 1 month Prediction using VIX = 8.55% (with 68% Certainty, or about 1 Standard Deviation)
4. For each month, the S&P 500 (it can Go UP or DOWN)
5. There are 2^12 possibilities of UP and DOWN months in a year = 4096.
6. Here are the Possibilities Below (Months UP and Months DOWN):
6 UP, 6 DOWN = 924/4096. 22.5% (Near 0% Volatility)
5-7 UP, 5-7 DOWN = 2508/4096. 61.2% (Up to 17.1% Volatility)
4-8 UP, 4-8 DOWN = 3498/4096. 85.4% (Up to 34.2% Volatility)

*** So, within a 58% Overall Certainty, the market will Go Up or Down within 34.2% from it’s current level. Yes, the Market is really that Volatile. And, is my prediction for the next year (based on this VIX level)

What is your Prediction, and opinion? Will it be Up 15% or down 20%, in 1 year time, for example…

Do online trading sites issue stock certificates?

By · July 15, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 2 Comments »

Do online investment and trading websites, such as Scottrade, Ameritrade, Fidelity, et al. issue stock certificates when you buy a share?

I’m not ready to get into investing. All I want to do is buy a few shares of various companies – simply to be a shareholder.
