Here is a suggestion for learning how to trade. Several thousand people in North Carolina, Virgina and South Carolina have taken this class in person. People have even flown in from other parts of the US to take the class. But can be taken on-line.
The web site is http://www.achieverschoicequest.com
While may cost $600 – $700, I made my money back before completing the course. The instructor uses OptionsXpress. Very reputable company.

If you are looking into penny stocks I would just go with whoever offers the most penny stocks you are interested in and has the lowest fees. Now if you were talking about getting into mutual funds and what not later down the line you want to start looking into how you can avoid those fees. I personally have ING Direct checking account and since ING owns sharebuilder they waive all fees everytime I buy a mutual fund through automatic investment withdraws. It costs me nothing to buy the mutual fund, so it is really up to you and what your long term goals are.

Etrade, Scottrade, ameritrade and other site are great for beginners but, they also charge you a premium for the extra services. Once you get adjusted to how the trading platforms work, i suggest you use a Discount broker. trade king and zecco will save you money especially if you are trading penny stocks. all the broker do the same thing so shop around for the best rates.
