Is it a smart decision to invest Rs. 5000 in shares?
I have limited knowledge about the share market. I have been studying the volatility and sensitivity of the indian stock market for 6-7 months and I believe I have a fair knowledge about it. So owing to my limited knowledge and minimum risk appetite I would like to invest Rs. 5,000 in stocks. Is it a good decision? How big is the risk of diversification and transaction cost for such a meager amount? And I am investing with a short to medium term perspective ie my number of transactions might me more which would mean I will have to pay more transaction costs. Considering all that would mutual funds be a better option?
Also can anyone please also suggest of any investment forums where queries related investments are answered "free of cost".
What are the downsides to ETF trading?
Hey there, I’ve been in EEB following the BRIC countries since the middle of last year and while the US markets have been shamed. I’m still up pretty good considering most everything is down.
I’m loving the ETF style of investing and went with EEB because it’s just to damned hard to follow independent foreign stocks in those territories.
That said I’m seriously considering consolidating most of my US based stocks into XLG which follows the Russell 500 and comprises the biggest large cap movers. From there I’d still have my fun with spec stocks but it’s a whole lot less volatility and homework on the bulk of my portfolio, just consistent growth.
So, first question! Are there really any downsides to ETF’s? Yes, I get that I don’t get the huge growth spikes, but can save those for Spec stocks. You also don’t get the huge dives, just steady growth.
Second, any good ETF funds you recommend? And anyone done analysis on EEB vs. BIK? BIK is cheaper but EEB seems more successful.
I’m seriously thinking of growing my BRIC (EEB) investments, following the Russell 500 (XLG), buying into Gold (IAU or GDX) and holding onto a 15 – 20% for speculative and spot growth. Just seems much more secure for my ensure long-term growth while still allowing me to play the ponies (spec’s and high growth individuals) to keep it interesting. I hate my job but it affords me a wonderful lifestyle while letting me put away – k/year so hoping to ride this for 5 to 10 more years and go do whatever the heck I want!
Where can I invest my money in business or…..?
For the last year or so I’ve (thankfully) been saving much more than I can spend. Last year I started to invest in the stock market and things are going ok, and I’m happy with that considering the volatility of the stock markets these days. I’m investing there more for the long term/retirement.
However, I’d really like to invest in a small company or two, maybe even start up company, and be a kind of silent partner with little responsibility. This would be more to balance up the risk of my stocks. Probably looking to start with small investments of perhaps a few thousand pounds.
Any ideas where I can find information about going about this?
Any safe investments with a little more pop besides money market funds?
I may soon be the recipient of an inhertance worth a good sum of money. I’ve figured I could live solely off the interest made from a money market account. However, what I will probably spend and probably make in interest is cutting it a little too close.
Are there any other safe investments that, with a little increased risk, can give me a little more volatility and a better returns than what money market accounts typically make (5%)?
Let’s consider a time-frame of 10 yrs., so stocks are definitely out of the question.
Thanks for your help!
Why is the turmoil on wall street bad for investors?
Consider this: I’ve been "playing" the stock market with 00 fake money and have doubled it in one month. Without the volatility i would never have been able to do that. I’ve bought in the pits and sold on the upswings (yes the upswings, not the crest). Of course, i’ve made 50 trades which adds up to over 0 of fees, but I already factored that in. I’m enjoying the volatility, why do ppl consider it an end to their investments?
How does the housing market affect the stock market so much?
I heard that the housing market being low in sales and with the forclousure market crashing, it is affecting investors so much that they are moving money out of equities (stocks) and investing more in safer investments. Thats why the stock market has been down so much in the past week.
How does this happen? I was reading about it, but I didn’t really understand. Are investors pulling out their stocks from big lenders? How exactly does it affect the stock market? I need help understanding it in normal terms that make sense.
Please advise, thank you!!
