is it possible to use beta to measure the efficiency of the market?
Am doing my dissertation now and the topic relates to EMH. Coz I found beta is also a potential factor to interpret the market efficiency since it shows the volatility of the equity toward the market index. Here is what I link them together: if a stock is very volatile (beta>1, the movement can be up or down) that there is a lot of new information being made available and the market is adjusting to it. As far as i’ve done, I calculated the past and present beta within 2 years and compared them but the result provided an unclear answer because there is not much difference between the two value showing that the beta changed within 2 years. And now I dont know how to continue to interpret them to test the efficiency of the market. I tried to find some previous studies but non of them really related to wat am looking for. could anyone pls help me out of this situation, I just wanna know is there any percent of success that I can move on with this topic and how? How beta can become a factor to measure the market efficiency? Thank a lot.

Stock trading or sex trading — what's the difference?
Wall street is in the business of making money from the spread, the difference between ask and bid price of the stock. Volatile market is in their best interest because then people trade more often. The analysts role is to maintain this volatility doing thus service to Wall street, right? How much real do you think is this somewhat sceptic (or cynical) point of view?
both immoral, but one is legal the other not. Tell Wall steeters they are in an immoral business!
As volume increases spread decreases, I agree, but their product, spread times volume, increases too.
It is like selling cheap humburgers at McDonalds to millions of customers instead of more expensive ones at mom and pop’s restourant to fewer customers. Big industry is always more profitable.
What is the volatility measurement you look for when buying calls?
Do you just look at the stock and determine how often in the market it swings? Do you do this with index stocks or with individual stocks?
Is this basically pattern studying and deciding if you are in a low or a high to do this?
Do you concentrate on earnings or just overall movement in the stock?

What is the best online stock trading site?
I want to trade penny stocks and a few regular stocks. I don’t have a lot of money to spend paying the site, but I would like to at least have a feature where if a stock lowers to a certain point it will automatically sell if that’s available. Other than that I just want inexpensive service.
Ultra proshares for stock market?
I’m seriously conidering putting about 20% of my portfolio in 2x long shares i.e. SSO, UYG etc…. here’s my question… over a 5 year period should I expect about 2 times the return? or is the return affected by volatility… for example… if the market is up 5% on the year in a VERY volatile market should I expect around 10% in a 2x long fund/stock?
