am i middle class or upper class?

By · September 15, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 17 Comments »

I am 25 years old, bachelor’s and master’s degree, no debt, and have 0K in the stock market (used to be 0 but took a hit in the recent volatility). i’m not trying to show off or anything. i’m just honestly curious: am i considered "middle class" or "upper class"? Or is it really geographically specific (i.e. in most places I would be considered upper class, but in certain places, like San Francisco or New York City, I would only be middle class?)

Shouldn't the Federal Reserve raise interest rates?

By · September 7, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 7 Comments »

The costs of living are rising? So shouldn’t the fed raise rates to slow things down? I think subprime threw them a curve ball! But I think they should crack down on fraud and mismanagement, jail a few major investors and change investment rules so that the volatility in the markets will erase itself. After all, the markets are mostly bets placed on a rise and fall of a stock price or percieved values per moment, when in acuality, some companies need this cash, but many do not! They do not need investor’s money to keep going, so they are using that leverage to make money in the markets off of options and dissuading smaller investors from playing against the house. Is this fair? Should our stock market be played like this? And should they be allowed to play our tax dollars like this too?

I think raise interest rates and watch these guys sweat a little like they have made small investors sweat!
While I agree that wealth pays taxes, I am also aware that somebody raised those children to get that wealth! The people that put the diapers on those kids and paid for their education and what not do not deserve to be downtrodden. I am an American Taxpayer and I don’t like paying double taxes, once to put diapers on the wealthy kids and then again to pay for extravagant homes they did not have to buy in the first place.

I cannot imagine owning a 700k house when I am in my early 20′s! That is just so totally bogus! I am opposed to supporting that! I busted my hump most of my life to even have my modest lifestyle now!

I want the fed to do it’s job and raise interest rates!

How should I invest now?

How should I invest?
I have
47k in cash (Savings/Checking)
25.5k in a MIP Class III fidelity fund (401k).
Total assets about ,500.
No debt.I rent and I move from time to time.

I am 28 year old. How should I invest. I can withstand about 10-15% volatility. I don’t want the 2008 stock market wild ride.

Where can I invest my money in business or…..?

By · August 30, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 2 Comments »

For the last year or so I’ve (thankfully) been saving much more than I can spend. Last year I started to invest in the stock market and things are going ok, and I’m happy with that considering the volatility of the stock markets these days. I’m investing there more for the long term/retirement.

However, I’d really like to invest in a small company or two, maybe even start up company, and be a kind of silent partner with little responsibility. This would be more to balance up the risk of my stocks. Probably looking to start with small investments of perhaps a few thousand pounds.

Any ideas where I can find information about going about this?

Is there always a seller in the CFD market?

By · August 15, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 1 Comment »

I mean when firms quote CFD prices – does it mean that they will be obliged to sell me the contract and later accept my closing position? I know when it comes to stock – this issue – called liquidity risk- is more of a subject to a country and/or jurisdiction. That said in US – nasdaq and nyse are required by law for every buyer to be a seller and for every seller to be a buyer. But in exchanges such as ASX – this isn’t the case. However, so far thinking logically in my opinion you should be able to close your CFD position at any time – why? Because in the stock market a sale looks more like that: A car costs 000: you buy the car…but what if there are no sellers and you can’t sell it to make a profit or at least get some cash back? This the problem…now in CFDs: you borrow a car that costs 000 – you decide you don’t need the car and return it to the lender…the lender SHOULD give you back the collateral you have deposited to borrow the car in terms of CFD trading.
Of course they get financing, commisions, bid ask spread…there are other nerdy dumb terms such as LIBOR, volatility, alpha, beta…bla, bla, bla – but I am asking for a real world situation to make money and not some university meditation.

Thanks!

Why is the turmoil on wall street bad for investors?

By · August 13, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 5 Comments »

Consider this: I’ve been "playing" the stock market with 00 fake money and have doubled it in one month. Without the volatility i would never have been able to do that. I’ve bought in the pits and sold on the upswings (yes the upswings, not the crest). Of course, i’ve made 50 trades which adds up to over 0 of fees, but I already factored that in. I’m enjoying the volatility, why do ppl consider it an end to their investments?

Whats a good stock trading site?

By · August 4, 2010 · Filed in Uncategorized · 4 Comments »

I have never bought or sold on the stock market before, but I am looking to start. I don’t plan on investing much (a couple of hundred dollars at most) and am looking for a good website to do it through. I plan on just buying some blue chip stocks and collecting dividends, so I don’t want a site that charges monthly fees, since I won’t be trading that often.
